Exotic Dragonfruit Varieties (Various)
Here at the Organic Roots farm, we have a collection of over 23 Dragonfruit varieties. Unfortunately, most of these are still very young plants and have not yet produced sufficient cuttings in order for us to offer them up for sale.
However as and when cuttings become available, they will be listed here. Please make sure to select at least one of the tick boxes.
At the moment clients have the option of purchasing some of the following varieties:
'Pina' Our very own variety - R500ea
This Zamarano-like variety has a very unique firmly spined two-toned colored fruit with red flesh. We have therefore decided to name it 'Pina' meaning Pineapple for its firm exterior and also its very spiny stem. At the moment we have 5x cuttings available (limited to one per collector)
Asunta X - R400ea
This very unique red-flowered variety known as AX comes from a cross between Hylocereus stenopterus and Hylocereus guatemalensis. We currently have 5 cuttings available.
Pink Panther - R350ea
Pink Panther Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus setacus and an unknown variety. It likely gets its name for its bright colored flesh. The fruit has a nice balance of acidity and sweetness and is quite refreshingly chilled. The sweetness scores a rating of 19 on a Brix scale of 0 to 32 for sweetness. This variety is self-pollinating and will set fruit on its own. The pollen is a great source when crossing with other varieties. We currently have 1 cuttings available.
Delight - R250ea
This delicious pink-fleshed variety is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus undatus and Hylocereus guatemalensis. It is self-pollinating and very fertile that will readilly set fruit on its own. The fruit is medium-sized and has a unique pink hue that has a delightful flavor, and this is where it gets its name. The flowers of this variety are also unusually large. We currently have 3 cuttings available.
Sugar Dragon S8 @ R250ea
This self-pollinating and very fertile Dragon Fruit variety produces an abundance of smaller yet very sweet magenta-fleshed fruit. The fruit is This variety is typically the first and last to bloom having three or more flowing cycles. This variety is a must for any collector as its pollen can be used with almost any other Dragon Fruit plant to create fruit. Research has stated that the variety known as Voodoo Child and S8 are the same. The S8 is a cross between a Houghton and Rixford variety according to Paul Thomson’s book Pitahaya. We currently have 2 cuttings available.
Royal Red @ R200ea
We have yet been able to pinpoint the exact origin or name of this large round fruited variety and have therefore decided to call it Royal Red after the deep red color of its fruit. We currently have 3 cuttings available.
Red Jiana @ R200ea
Red Jaina Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Hylocereus and another unknown species. This variety is one of the heaviest fruit producers once mature. The fruit is semi-sweet and very juicy, but its most unique feature is the curly red spines of its fruit. Stems are tender and three-sided with medium-sized spines. The stems also have an olive color with new growth having hits of purple. We currently have 4 cuttings available.
Vietnamese Red @ R200ea
This fruit of this variety has an unusually deep red-fleshed color with very tiny black seeds. In Vietnam, it is prized for its delicious taste when compared to the typical Vietnamese white-fleshed variety.
